For some reason I’ve never quite got on with Sundays. Probably because they’ve always hinted that the weekend is coming to an end. So I’ve decided to tackle my ‘Sunday-phobia’ head-on by making them more enjoyable and turning them into simple Sundays.
My plan for the next 6 weeks is to make Sunday a day of relaxation, instead of the day that I hurriedly try to tie up any loose ends before the start of another busy week. I aim to approach them more mindfully and spend them doing things that I actually enjoy. Hopefully I’ll then lose that sinking Sunday feeling. If it works then I’ll make simple Sundays part of my weekly routine and if not then I can return using it as my catch-up day.
3 Simple Pleasures
So today started with a leisurely stroll along the seafront. It was lovely to get out there early and soak up the views. The promenade was almost deserted and the rhythmic crashing of the waves was very calming.
There’s something soothing about cooking meals up in a big pot. I don’t know if it’s the repetitive nature of adding ingredients and stirring , the magic of watching it transform or just the anticipation of eating something delicious, but I love it!
One Sunday ritual I have been enjoying since lockdown is making soup. Today I made Jack Monroe’s ‘Spinach, Lentil and Lemon soup‘ which has been one of my firm favourites for many years. It’s simple, tasty and healthy. I always make at least double the amount and have it for lunch during the week or stick a few portions in the freezer. If you’re a bit dubious about the combination of ingredients then I recommend you give it a try, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised! And if you try it and love it, then considering buying the book containing this and lots of other delicious recipes, here.
This afternoon I did some relaxing restorative yoga with the wonderful Maria from @PlayPauseBe on Instagram. I usually struggle to quieten my mind but I was amazed at how quickly I was able to let go and relax. I’ll definitely be adding this practice to my yoga routine.
The result
I’m definitely feeling more relaxed after taking some time to do the things I enjoy and I’m looking forward to many more simple Sundays. How do you spend your Sunday – is it a day of relaxation or one of playing catch-up?
