Rediscovering Frugal Queen: Get Organised and Save Money

by mortgagefreebythesea on Jul 5, 2020 category Simple Sundays

I’m pleased to say that I’ve been much better behaved this Sunday and I’ve made myself have a day off. I’ve spent it doing lots of lovely things, one of those was catching up with Frugal Queen.

Who is Frugal Queen?

Frugal Queen is a money saving blogger. When I was pursuing my path to mortgage freedom, I read her blog frequently and picked up lots of tips on how to stretch my budget even further. Like me, she was trying to pay off her mortgage, although she’d been working on it for much longer than I had. Her posts covered everything from cooking on a budget and saving money around the home, to thrifty holidays and upcycling her latest charity shop finds. She was a hardcore blogger, posting almost every day, and I enjoyed reading about her daily pursuits.

Then one day her blog suddenly vanished. I’m not sure what happened but there were various rumours suggesting that she’d been trolled and had decided to close her blog down. Some people did find her posts controversial because she spoke frankly about debt, pointing out that if you were in debt then you couldn’t afford shopping sprees, holidays, cars etc. She held a magnifying glass up to consumerist culture and challenged it. But no matter what, Frugal Queen stuck to her principles and was always willing to help people out with solid and frank advice.

So imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon her profile on Twitter and found that she was back online. Although she posts on Twitter, many of her tweets originate from her Instagram account – @frugalqueeninfrance. I recommend that you go and check her out. That’s what I’ve been doing today as part of my simple Sunday and it’s heartwarming to see that she still sticks to the same frugal principles. I also stumbled upon an earlier Frugal Queen blog which was a trip down memory lane.

Simple Pleasures

So it’s been a rather nostalgic Sunday and it’s been lovely to stop and just be. It’s all too easy to get caught up in the hamster wheel of life without pausing for breath. But being constantly on the go isn’t healthy and it doesn’t give us any time to reflect. That’s why I’ve decided to add a simple pleasures section to my Simple Sundays posts. So today’s simple pleasures are:

  • Catching up with Frugal Queen’s posts (well you knew that one was coming didn’t you).
  • Soaking up the sunshine on my morning run along the coast.
  • Visiting my family for tea and cake. I’ve not seen some of them since lockdown started so it was wonderful to catch up.

The day isn’t over yet and in true Frugal Queen style I’m going to have leftover homemade pizza for tea. Then I’m going to put my feet up and spend the rest of the evening binge-watching ‘Queer Eye’.

What have your simple pleasures been today?

Psst…If you’ve enjoyed this post, check out last Sunday’s post about minimalism and my not-so-minimalist day!
