So we’re now 8 weeks into lockdown in the UK and I’m sure many of us have had a lot more time on our hands to do things around the home. My social media accounts seem to be split between people who have been binge watching Netflix and others who have gone into cleaning and decluttering overdrive.
I’ve still been working from home, but I’ve also had time to reflect on the changes I’ve made over time. Many of these have helped me to save money and live a healtheir life. One of those is the way I do my laundry. My skin is quite sensitive and prone to dryness, itchiness and flare ups, so I’m very careful with the detergents I use. Once I find a product that I’m happy with, I tend to stick to it.
About 8 years ago, my Mum suggested that I try the Ecoegg. She’d seen it advertised on QVC and it was recommended by Kim Woodburn of ‘How Clean is Your House’ fame. In my quest to use products that were kinder to my skin, I decided to give it a go. I’d tried soapnuts previously, and was pleasantly surprised by their effectiveness, so I knew that natural products worked.
What is an Ecoegg?
Basically, the Ecoegg contains natural mineral pellets to clean your clothes rather than detergents. When I first used it I was surprised to find that my clothes didn’t smell of anything – they didn’t smell unclean, but they didn’t have that synthetic fragrance that usually remains with most laundry detergents. I didn’t need to use any fabric conditioner in my wash and my clothes came out perfectly soft. Admittedly, I do like a bit of fragrance so I add a few drops of diluted lavender oil to the fabric conditioner tray. Ecoegg do now offer a range of pellet fragrances, so I might try one when I next stock up.
Save money with the Ecoegg
In addition to being kinder to my skin, the Ecoegg has also been kinder to my wallet. At the time of writing, an Ecoegg starter pack that does up to 70 washes can be purchased for £9.99. The Ecoegg refill contains pellets only and retails for £9.99 for 210 washes. And they do sometimes have offers on their website meaning you can save even more money.
After 8 years of wear, my Ecoegg is still going strong. The catch on the case is starting to become a bit weak but I’ll keep using it until it breaks. Then I’ll buy a replacement as it’s one of the best natural laundry products I’ve come across so far.
