Life is not linear – this came as a surprise to me. As someone who held a very linear world view, I envisioned myself staying in my job, paying my mortgage off, amassing a small fortune and having a very comfortable future. I was well and truly on my safe, linear path.
I’ve recently attended the Etsy in a Week course and what a fantastic learning journey it has been. It’s shown me that it’s possible to build your own thriving Etsy business, something that I never thought possible.
Before I started my Etsy learning journey, I thought that Etsy was an outlet for hobbyists to sell their creations… Yes, I’m hanging my head in shame at my own naivety! But now I’ve learnt that it’s possible to create an Etsy empire and scale it as much as you want.
My unintentional journey with breathwork started almost two decades ago. I’d returned to a town I loved to start my Masters degree and saw an advert for local Tai-Chi classes. After leaving a stressful job in the city, I was ready to embrace my new found freedom, so decided to sign up.
Tai-Chi taught me to get out of my head and into my body. It was the first time I’d learned to synchronise the breath with movement and I was amazed at how calm and clear I felt after each class.

The destination myth is prevalent in today’s society. It leads us to believe that it’s the destination, and not the journey, that is important. As a result of this, once we reach our destination, it can leave us feeling stuck and underwhelmed.
During my journey to mortgage freedom there were times when I became caught up in the destination myth. It wasn’t a conscious choice, but because I was so focused on reaching the destination of being ‘mortgage free’ there were times when life slipped by in anticipation of the next paycheck and the dream of an idyllic future.
