About me

Hello everyone and welcome to Mortgage Free by the Sea. I’m Vicky, a self-employed author, and I live on the beautiful East Yorkshire coast where I share my home with a very sleepy cat, 6 chickens and my partner, CP.

I enjoy early morning runs on the beach, growing my own fruit and veg – which I then use in a wide range of home-made concoctions (especially cakes!) and writing. I’m a bit of a yoga enthusiast, dream analyst and it’s not rare to find me pulling a Tarot card or two. On an evening you’ll probably find me curled up with a good book and a cuppa.

Life Alchemy

Originally, this blog began as a way for me to share the discoveries I’d made on my path to mortgage freedom. I hoped to help others who wanted to rid themselves of the debts that were preventing them from living a life they truly loved.

However, as with all journeys, we encounter many twists and turns in the road which leads us down different paths. My path has led me to explore ways that we can all live life to the fullest right now. So that no matter how we feel about our finances, we can take control of our lives and make the changes we want to make.

I call this process Life Alchemy, and the more people I speak to, the more I realise that we can all take steps to create the life we truly want to live in this very moment. The key is to take that first step.

I encourage everyone who reads this blog to become a Life Alchemist. Only you know what you truly want from your life. But I hope that by sharing my journey, I will inspire you to start thinking about what truly lights you up and to go for it! Dream big, take action and find the freedom every day to live the life you love.

My mortgage free dream

Since the day I took out my mortgage, I wanted to be mortgage free. It took me 12 years and 9 months to get there (technically it was 11 years and 9 months, but that’s a story for another time) but now that I’ve finally achieved it, I’ve found that it’s opened up my world.

I was able to go part-time, gaining time freedom and some much needed thinking space to explore what I wanted to do with my life. I’m now 40 and I’m pleased to announce that I still have no idea and I’m quite content with being a curious explorer. However, the space allowed room for inspiration and exploration, which led me to set up my own business.

As I result, I’ve now left my job and have ventured into the world of self-employment. Alongside this, I’m writing and have kickstarted my career as an author. Oh, and somewhere along the way, I happened to find the love of my life.

An invitation

So now you know a bit more about me, I invite you to dip your toes into my little corner of the blogosphere and become curious. There are posts about all sorts of things here – health, wealth and happiness with a sprinkling of magic too.

If you’re not sure where to start, then the beginning is always a good place or be a rebel, dive in and begin to design your future right now. If you’re looking for specific money saving tips, then the beginning is the place for you. Alternatively, if you’re looking for more tailored guidance on transforming your life accompanied by a hint of magic, then be sure to also check out my book Seasons of Change.

Wherever you begin, take what serves you and ignore the rest. But ultimately, my hope is that you’re inspired to find the freedom to live the life you love.
