This week has seen me put the finishing touches to my creative side hustle, Chicken Roulette Press.
After a manic day at work, I’ve donned my business cap and got creative. The result is a freshly launched Twitter page and a selection of self-published books on Amazon.
I’m amazed to say that I’ve already made some sales (and that wasn’t just from the copy my Mum bought…although obviously she’s my number one fan!). And whilst the process of self-publishing has been a steep learning curve, it has also been incredibly fun!
Why Chicken Roulette Press?
Those of you who know me in real-life or who follow me on Twitter will know about my recent ‘chicken antics’.
After adopting a new brood of hens, I soon discovered that rather than go into the warm, cozy coop on a night, they preferred to sleep on the roof!
Now fox sightings aren’t uncommon in my area and I didn’t want to offer them a free lunch. So my evenings consisted of going out in the dark and quickly collecting up the sleepy little cluckers to shut them away safely for the night.
On social media, this became a game affectionately termed ‘chicken roulette’. One which led to predictions of whether I’d win (i.e. all the chickens had behaved and gone indoors) or whether I’d lose and end up fumbling around in the dark, doing a grab and dash in an attempt to tuck them up with the minimum fuss possible.
The chickens are mostly obedient now, although I still see that cheeky glint in their eyes suggesting that my chicken roulette days aren’t over yet.
So when deciding a name for my new creative side hustle, Chicken Roulette Press felt like the obvious choice. Just like the little cluckers, my products are fun and quirky with a hint of unpredictability.
Chicken Roulette Press – Gratitude Journals
One of my non-negotiables as I developed Chicken Roulette Press was that I wouldn’t create something that I wouldn’t be happy to purchase. I want my business to focus on quality rather than quantity and offer genuine value.
Last week I posted about developing an abundance mindset and the importance of giving. In line with this, I chose to create a series of gratitude journals.
Gratitude is an essential factor in developing an abundance mindset and it’s another practice I’ve recently adopted.
So Chicken Roulette Press was launched with a range of themed gratitude journals. If you’d like to take a peek at what I’ve created then follow the links below:
- Start Each Day With A Grateful Heart
- Love Your Life
- For My Daughter: A Gift of Gratitude
- For My Mum: A Gift of Gratitude
If you view these on your computer, rather than on your phone, Amazon allows you to access the ‘Look Inside’ feature. For some reason it doesn’t show up on mobile devices, although it may transfer over at a later date.
In line with my previous post on giving, I’ll be donating 10% of all profits from Chicken Roulette Press to a worthwhile cause.
My first donation will be going to the RNLI. As I live on the coast, it’s a charity very close to my heart. I didn’t quite comprehend the bravery and dedication of everybody involved until I watched Saving Lives at Sea on BBC 2.
When you have something on your doorstep, it becomes easy to take it for granted. But this charity needs our support and I’d like to think that my creative side hustle can help with this.
So if you feel inspired to make a purchase, then know that you’ll be supporting a very worthwhile cause too.
Although I’ve given the links to Amazon.co.uk, my journals are available across most (if not all) of the Amazon sites, so be sure to search for them on your local Amazon website.
Future hatchlings – lined notebooks, journals and more…
My vision for the future is that Chicken Roulette Press will produce a wide range of diaries, notebooks, planners and journals.
I’ve already produced a weekly meal planner containing enough pages to help you plan your meals and shopping lists throughout the year. And I’ve developed a selection of lined notebooks which should be launched by the end of next week.
If you’d like to keep up-to-date with my latest releases then be sure to follow @ChickenRoulette on Twitter. There may even be updates on the real-life little cluckers too!
Alternatively, type Chicken Roulette Press into Amazon to get an overview of my offerings.
If you do decide to purchase one of my products, then let me take this opprtunity to say ‘thank you’. You’re not only supporting a small business but helping a charity too!
Do let me know what you think and any photos, videos or reviews are gratefully accepted. Just tag me in them on Twitter or add them to Amazon.
Do you have a small business? It would be great to hook-up and support each other. Message me through my contact page or on Twitter.
If you’re interested in developing your own creative side hustle, then check out this post. It outlines how I got started and offers some useful resources.
As always, I’m a real person and happy to help. So feel free to message me if you have any questions.
Have a clucking amazing Sunday (sorry, I couldn’t resist!).
