The Freedom Diaries – Week 21 & 22: Celebrating 2021

by mortgagefreebythesea on Jan 2, 2022 category The Freedom Diaries

Happy New Year! And thank you for visiting my little corner of cyberspace. As we welcome in the new energy of 2022, I want to take some time to pause and celebrate 2021. It was a wonderful year for so many reasons.

Why Celebrate?

In a world where the media can have such a negative impact on our emotions, I feel it’s important to take time to acknowledge our personal ‘wins’ and reconnect with ourselves. I highly recommend that everyone takes time to drown out the external ‘noise’ and create some space to look inwards and reflect upon what gifts 2021 offered.

If you haven’t made space to do this, then give yourself an hour, settle down with a cuppa and reflect. You may be surprised at what hidden gems surface. And if you’re really struggling, look back through your journal, photos or social media posts for inspiration.

Celebrating 2021 – The Best Bits

So without further ado, here are my best bits from 2021:

  • April – CP moved in and I’ve loved spending time together and transforming it into our home.
  • May – I manifested my perfect car (and paid for it in cash). Read more about the magical tale here.
  • July – After 15 years I left my job and became self-employed and I haven’t looked back since. Another amazing occurence was that I was able to visit my Nanna in her care home after not being able to see her for a year. It was such a precious moment.
  • August – I turned 40 and have declared that it will be a decade of fun and following my own path!
  • September – I ran 60 miles in September to raise money for Cancer Research UK. I managed to raise £375 and boosted my confidence in my abilities as a runner.
  • October – I published Seasons of Change. I wrote it in August but it took me until October to pull everything together and transform it into a physical book. It was certainly a learning experience and is one of my proudest achievements to date.
  • December – I was invited to do an Instagram Live with the Rebel Business School where I spoke about how to write and publish a book for free. It challenged me to move out of my comfort zone but I’m so pleased I did it.

There are many more reasons why I’m celebrating 2021 – I’ve met ‘virtual’ friends in real life, have shared many happy times with special people and have had lots of fun along the way.

Feeling Grateful

As I type this post, I’m filled with gratitude for everything that I’ve experienced in 2021. Where will 2022 take me? Well, I have lots of plans and intentions but I also want to make space for those things that bring me happiness and joy. I’ll be regularly reviewing my happiness list and keeping my vibes high. I also plan to switch off the ‘noise’ and connect with myself more often, so I’ll be interested to see what unfolds.

But most of all, I want to approach 2022 from a place of celebration and gratitude and I hope that this post has given you the inspiration to join me. After all, tiny steps can lead to huge transformations over time, so in a world where we can create our own realities, what do you choose to create?
